Ramboll was successful in a submission with Kier for a £16.5m improvement scheme for Cambridgeshire County Council at Kings Dyke. We will be designers for bridges, rail, infrastructure and highways and ground engineering. A detailed six month design process is about to start on the detail of the road-over-rail scheme. The project requires significant earthworks, highway and other structures. Initial works have included interpreting the existing ground investigation (GI) information, undertaking embankment settlement assessments, developing ground improvement options, undertaking retaining wall design and developing proposals for further GI.
Ramboll has been selected to lead a highly skilled technical team to develop a new permanent Cruise Terminal Facility on the River Mersey. Drawing on over 20 years’ experience of working on cruise liner terminals in the UK, and over 30 years of experience in marine structure design, the team will initially work on developing a detailed design on the proposed £50m facility before submitting a planning application for the former Princes Jetty, off Princes Parade, later this year. Subject to planning approval the Ramboll team would then project manage and assist with ongoing monitoring of construction of the new facility, as well as assisting with contractor procurement.
We’ve also secured a pivotal role in the Delivery Partner (Systems) team for Network Rail, helping shape their Digital Railway programme. The team will be leading the development of the Digital Railway Toolkit. This is a set of requirements, specifications, and processes, along with competency and training requirements that will support the roll-out of the Digital Railway on a number of strategic routes across the network. We’ll also be working with Network Rail’s route teams, train and freight operating companies, rolling stock companies, industry supply chain and other stakeholders to develop candidate schemes for digital rail. The team will also support the preparation of Outline Business Cases to inform the next 5 year funding and regulatory period from April 2019.
Manchester City Council named Ramboll as part of the design team for their ‘Our Town Hall’ project. The work includes the upgrade and repair of their Grade I-listed Manchester Town Hall, which will be 140 years old this year. Ramboll will be undertaking structural and civil engineering for the City’s vital civic facilities, which require significant work to address damage and defects to prevent its condition deteriorating further. The building, designed in the 1860s by Alfred Waterhouse, also needs work to bring it up to modern access and safety standards while preserving its heritage.
