Supporting technical research
We proactively support technical research activities through internal research initiatives and through the Ramboll Foundation's funding for research partnerships with academia. Our internal task group focuses on instigating research projects, providing assistance to carry out research, encouraging staff to undertake research, and documenting and disseminating the results. We we have an excellent track record for translating research into practical techniques that benefit clients — through engineering design solutions, materials development and improvements in methodologies and systems, for example.
In the UK, research partnerships have been set up with higher education and construction industry organisations, and we have a continuous programme of support for candidates working towards engineering masters and doctorate qualifications.
R&D Forums
Each year, Ramboll's R&D Task Group in London organises a cross-discipline R&D Forum for the sharing of research carried out in the preceeding year. The 2010 R&D Forum took place in June and 16 papers were presented in four themed sessions, covering sustainability, integrated design, advances in materials and specialist analysis.
Technical Excellence Forums
Our Technical Excellence Forum is an annual event that attracts participants from all parts of the organisation in the UK. Technical papers are presented and discussion encouraged. The idea is to capture and share the technical knowledge gained by our engineers, consultants and experts, and to celebrate the technical expertise it represents. The forums also provide excellent networking opportunities and represent a good example of the knowledge-sharing culture of the company.
