Every year, Ramboll's experts in the UK gather to present their latest design developments and technical innovations as part of our wider knowledge-sharing programme. In 2011, papers had been pre-submitted by Ramboll and Gifford engineers and consultants and the best were selected for development and presentation. Many of the papers were based on projects current at the time of the forum, and in some cases still in development.
The forum had a wide-ranging remit, covering such topics as structural design, fire engineering, acoustics, sustainability, conservation engineering, transportation developments, infrastructure, digital design and advances in renewable energies. Twelve papers were presented in all, focusing on projects from across the globe, from the Forth Replacement Crossing in Scotland to Yu Sha Square in Hainan, China.
The keynote speaker for 2011 was Andrew Griffin from award-winning architects JDS / Julien De Smedt Architects, who are based in Copenhagen. He gave the practice's Performative Projects talk - creatively delivered and very well received.
The presentations that followed covered many areas of expertise, capturing the imaginations of audience members. One client who attended was heard to say, "I was only here for one session but this is so interesting that I am staying for another".
The forum's closing speech was given by Ramboll Group CEO, Flemming Bligaard Pedersen, who praised the achievements of our engineers and consultants and reaffirmed his support for the knowledge-sharing initiative that underpins the event.
