What the graduates say
Many of our current senior people joined us a few years after graduation, engineers staying with us through the chartership process. We consistently rank highly in The Sunday Times 100 Best Companies list and some of the reasons for this are the engineering challenges, training and excellent pay and benefits we offer.

Leonie, 27, joined us on graduating from UMIST/University of Manchester and is a committed advocate for the profession. Two years ago, she was shortlisted for the award of 'most dedicated Science and Engineering Ambassador' for her volunteer work in schools, talking to young people about opportunities in engineering.
Strange to think that, on leaving school, it was touch and go as to whether Leonie would continue her studies in engineering at all. One gap year turned into two as she pursued another of her passions — teaching scuba diving in Australia. Eventually, her enthusiasm for both the technical and the creative aspects of structural engineering convinced her to return and complete her degree. Was it the right choice?
"There's many different routes into engineering. One of the things I like about the company is that they're interested in people who've done something a bit different. It isn't only about whether you got five As at A level. Since the day I arrived, I've been the consistent person working on a really unique, one-off project — from graduate to project engineer, and the client's main daily contact. The exposure has been fantastic, a real challenge and really positive. Going forward, there's so much exciting work going on that I don't want to miss out on any of it!"
Pierre-Edouard, 24, always knew that he wanted to qualify in a field that would allow him to work abroad. He started early, with a six-month internship in our London office as part of his engineering degree. Not only did the work of our infrastructure team interest him and match the criteria required by his French university, but he found our whole approach welcoming.
"I felt that Ramboll UK was happy to attract different sorts of people and people from different cultures. I've found them very willing to help with details, like the requirements of my university. Now they're helping me on the course to chartership, which is something really new for me — it's completely different from France."
After graduating from the University of Manchester, Simon, 27, thought he'd like to see something of the world before continuing with his career. By the time he approached us for a job, he’d taken more than two years out, mainly living in Japan — in fact, he had not been sure whether he would come back.
"I think some engineering consultancies were a bit put off by the time I'd taken after uni, but at Ramboll UK I got an interview with one of the principal directors. He was really interested in everything I'd done! The company felt really people-orientated: they were after decent, interesting people and the whole interview process was geared up for that."
