Kai Birger OlsenBSc Member of the Society of Danish Engineers IDADirector, Ramboll Oil & Gas UK Curriculum VitaeKai Birger Olsen joined Ramboll in 1979. He became Head of the Offshore Structural Division in 1985, Kai has thirty-five years experience in offshore engineering. Starting his career in Norway in 1975 as the North Sea oil and gas industry was in its infancy, he has been responsible for the design of successive generations of facilities. The range of his platform design work has enabled the exploitation of reserves that would once have been commercially unfeasible. In an industry that places huge demands on technological innovation, he is a highly respected figure. Working to national and international standards he has produced extensive conceptual studies and designed both sub-sea and topside facilities. He has worked at the forefront of design technology, generating in-place, launch, up-ending and wave slamming analyses, together with studies of ice and iceberg loads, ship impact and pile driving fatigue. Kai has particular experience of monocolumn platforms and their foundations, which he is now applying to Ramboll UK’s offshore wind projects. He is also contributing to work on the decommissioning of offshore platforms. He has extensive experience of both project and company management, and as a team leader and Director has a record of motivating and sustaining commitment. His work as a Ramboll Director has included the establishment of an office in Qatar.
