Robert Butler

Robert leads the work in our Buildings & Design service area in the northern region of the UK, which includes our offices in Glasgow, Edinburgh, Manchester and Leeds. He is responsible for the continued development of the range of services we offer in the region and draws on his considerable strategic management experience to provide direction for growth.

Always client-focused and sensitive to the nature of the construction industry in the region, Robert is working towards further integration of the work of the buildings-related engineering disciplines, including not only structures and building services but fire, energy and sustainability. He sees this as key to the development of cost-effective, low energy, materials-efficient design solutions that benefit clients and the wider community.

As a building services engineer, Robert has more than 20 years' experience in the successful delivery of international and UK projects of all scales, in a variety of sectors, working to most procurement methods. He was co-founder of the company's Glasgow office and helped engineer some of Scotland's key commercial buildings of the last decade. In addition, he has been instrumental in the development of the Edinburgh, Dublin and Bristol offices, overseeing the introduction of new services.

Robert actively promotes knowledge sharing and process improvement. He is member of our technical excellence and sustainability forums, and is keen to promote sustainable engineering ideas within the regional commercial development community. He also promotes strong technical and business links with our overseas operations within the wider Ramboll organisation.
