Lecture
SUSTAINING OUR PAST: How to improve the energy performance and internal environment in our historic buildings
This talk will cover advances in building technology and modelling. The lecture aims to inspire today’s heritage visionaries to make yesterday’s buildings fit for tomorrow’s energy use. Ramboll's Farah Naz, Steven Bentley, Martin Merritt and James Miller will explore the findings, failures, challenges and solutions, as well as methods and advances that combine innovation and vision to sustain historic building fabric.
Describing a diverse range of projects, the lecture will cover the history and background of the conservation process of Mary Rose using Laser Aided Modelling (LAM), questioning when, why and how Building Information Modelling , Computational Fluid Dynamics, and Dynamic Thermal modelling has been used to predict and preserve these iconic masterpieces that we enjoy today.
This will be a wide‐ranging presentation that considers the practical aspects of preparing our historic buildings to meet the challenges of the future, given by key practitioners in the field. An abstract providing further detail on the subject is available to download.
