Ramboll Photo Competition 2011

Beautiful photography plays a vital part in telling the stories of what we do

The results of the Ramboll photo competition are keenly anticipated this year. From the more than 300 entries received, a shortlist was prepared, and the judging has now been completed. Last year's winner, Head of IMS at Ramboll UK, Harry Babraa, announced the winners at this year's Technical Excellence Forum, held in London on Tuesday 8th November.

The judging panel commented on the outstandingly high standard of entries. The images were judged on technical story, usability and composition ... and will soon be appearing in Ramboll marketing material.

And the winners are ...

PEOPLE IN THE ENVIRONMENT

Winner ...
JAMES MILLER, Technical Director, Gifford's London office
with his photograph Jodrell Bank - Suspended in Cheshire

This winning image has strong photographic style, reminiscent of the iconic construction shots of Manhattan skyscrapers. We are drawn to the lone figure suspended in the huge steel structure, framed and dwarfed by the composition of bold lines.

Commendations ...
Murray Forsyth, Design Engineer, Ramboll's London office
Survey team: John Rackham, Tom Woodfine and Graham Bateson, Gifford's Southampton office

Shortlisted ...
Murray Forsyth, Design Engineer, Ramboll's London office
Dirk Wilyman, Business Development, Ramboll's London office

FABRICATION. ASSEMBLY. CONSTRUCTION

Winner ...
CARL WINKLE, Senior Engineer, Ramboll's London office
with his photograph London Array Substation

The bright yellow, sweeping trumpet forms photographed by Carl are placed in scale and context by the worker in the shot - unfamiliar and intriguing imagery. It demands that we speculate further. The image represents fresh and exciting ventures at Ramboll in the UK.

Commendations ...
Stephen James, Associate, Ramboll's London office
Erum Karim, Engineer, Ramboll's London office

Shortlisted ...
Dan Dean, Engineer, Ramboll's London office
Sam Endsor, Engineer, Ramboll's London office
Alex Palmer, CAD Technician, Ramboll's Cambridge office

REVEALING THE UNSEEN

Winner ...
DAN DEAN, Engineer, Ramboll's London office
with his photograph Tate Modern Project

A London landmark is depicted. Its tower reaches up to the sky, while in the foreground, the skin of the building is peeled back to reveal its contents. A transformation is in its infancy, made possible by the necessity of demolition.

Commendations ...
Marios Antoniades, Engineer, Ramboll's London office
Survey team: John Rackham, Tom Woodfine and Graham Bateson, Gifford's Southampton office

Shortlisted ...
James Miller, Technical Director, Gifford's London office
