Ramboll has had the privilege of working on some of the world’s most famous buildings and infrastructure projects. Each project calls on a unique set of skills and experience. Here are just a few of them.

Recent wins

Bugesera International Airport, Rwanda
Ramboll Environ has undertaken an Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) and will prepare a resettlement action plan on behalf of the Bugesera Airport Company Limited (BAC) for a new airport to serve Rwanda, East Africa. BAC is a joint venture between the Rwandan government and Mota-Engil Engenharia e Construção SA, whose parent company is Mota-Engil Group, the largest Portuguese construction company. HS2 Phase 2B
Ramboll is working on the major HS2 Phase 2 contract as part of the Arup+ team. The team includes ERM, Foster + Partners, Jacobs, Ramboll, TYPSA and Costain.The team has been appointed by HS2 Ltd to be the Environmental Overview Consultant of the whole Phase 2b scheme, providing civil and environmental engineering services for the East Midlands to Leeds and York section of the High Speed line. Details here 

 

Bermuda Highway Bridges
Following an international tender, the Government of Bermuda has awarded a UK team, with Ramboll as lead consultant, the contract to deliver full design services for two replacement highway bridges – Longbird Bridge (a 1950s, 60m-long twin carriageway steel swing bridge) and Swing Bridge (constructed in the 1960s with a 120m span and extensively refurbished). The two bridges form a critical link in Bermuda’s infrastructure, connecting L F Wade International Airport with capital city Hamilton to the west and St Georges to the east. The design team will undertake studies to determine the most appropriate solutions for the new bridges, including fixed and movable structures. Details here

Southsea Coastal Scheme, Hampshire
Stretching 4.5km along Southsea’s frontage, this £100m coastal scheme will reduce the risk of significant flooding for over 100 years. It will protect 8,077 homes and 704 non-residential properties with the promenade being raised 2m in places. It will also stimulate regeneration across some high profile public realm and involve the sensitive treatment of cultural landmarks. Ramboll is working with Arup as designers for principal contractor Balfour Beatty under a Scape Procure framework. We will be providing marine, geotechnical, environmental and heritage services. A605 King’s Dyke, Whittlesey Improvement Scheme
Ramboll have been chosen to partner Kier in a £17m scheme to replace the existing level crossing on the A605 with a new road and bridge over the Ely to Peterborough railway line crossing at Kings Dyke. The existing level crossing will be closed. There will also be a new route to the south with new roundabouts. We will be working as Kier’s designer, designing bridges and providing rail, infrastructure, highways and ground engineering expertise. Details here

 

Permanent Cruise Terminal Facility on the River Mersey
Ramboll has been selected to lead a highly skilled technical team to develop a new permanent Cruise Terminal Facility on the River Mersey. Drawing on over 20 years’ experience of working on cruise liner terminals in the UK, and over 30 years of experience in marine structure design, the team will initially work on developing a detailed design on the proposed £50m facility before submitting a planning application for the former Princes Jetty, off Princes Parade, later this year. Subject to planning approval the Ramboll team would then project manage and assist with ongoing monitoring of construction of the new facility, as well as assisting with contractor procurement. Delivery Partner (Systems) Network Rail, Digital Railway programme
We have secured a pivotal role in the team leading the development of the Digital Railway Toolkit. This is a set of requirements, specifications, and processes, along with competency and training requirements that will support the roll-out of the Digital Railway on strategic routes across the network. We’ll be working with Network Rail’s route teams, train and freight operating companies, rolling stock companies, industry supply chain and other stakeholders to develop candidate schemes for digital rail. The team will also support the preparation of Outline Business Cases to inform the next 5 year funding and regulatory period from April 2019. Details here

Manchester City Council 'Our Town Hall' Project
Manchester City Council named Ramboll as part of the design team for their ‘Our Town Hall’ project. The work includes the upgrade and repair of their Grade I-listed Manchester Town Hall, which will be 140 years old this year. Ramboll will be undertaking structural and civil engineering for the City’s vital civic facilities, which require significant work to address damage and defects to prevent its condition deteriorating further. The building, designed in the 1860s by Alfred Waterhouse, also needs work to bring it up to modern access and safety standards while preserving its heritage. Details here
