Mental ill-health is the leading cause of sickness absence in the UK, with one in four British workers affected by conditions like anxiety, depression and stress every year.

At Ramboll our people are our most important investment and we are committed to making a positive contribution to their emotional, as well as physical, wellbeing. We are therefore delighted to have joined the growing movement of employers, from FTSE 100 companies and leading retailers to Government departments and local authorities, who are demonstrating their determination to normalise the conversation around mental health.

Ramboll’s commitment to its employees

Time to Change is run by the charities Mind and Rethink Mental Illness and, by signing up to the Employer Pledge and submitting its Time to Change Action Plan, Ramboll is committing to embed the following seven key principles into its organisation:

  • demonstrate senior level buy-in;
  • demonstrate accountability and recruit Employee Champions who will make mental health a normal topic of conversation, dispel myths and make it easier for people to seek support;
  • raise awareness about mental health;
  • establish policies which address mental health problems in the workplace;
  • ask employees to share their personal experiences of mental health issues;
  • equip line managers to have conversations about mental health; and
  • provide information about mental health and signposts to support services.

Ramboll Director Claire Hall, who is managing our Action Plan, says: “Our UK Wellbeing Network and leadership team have already made great strides towards embedding these principles within our organisation. I’m now really looking forward to working with Time to Change to make further progress on our approach to mental health and drive our campaign to create a truly open workplace where staff are encouraged to talk and listen.”

Dan Harvey, Ramboll Executive Director and Wellbeing Network Sponsor, comments: “Too many people with mental health problems are still made to feel isolated and ashamed and breaking down that stigma is an important part of our overall Equality, Diversity and Inclusion agenda. By signing the Time to Change Employer Pledge on behalf of Ramboll, UK MD Mathew Riley and I are signaling Ramboll’s intention to provide active and visible support and create an atmosphere where all our people feel safe.”

Our Time to Change Employer Pledge in full:

“We pledge to empower all our staff to speak openly and confidently about mental health and wellbeing, seek appropriate and easily accessible support without fear of stigma, and respond with empathy to the needs of colleagues experiencing mental health issues.”
