Aberdeen western peripheral route schemeAberdeen, UKThe Aberdeen western peripheral route scheme is a new bypass that is being developed in order both to improve travel conditions and reduce congestion in and around Aberdeen, where an estimated 43,000 cars take to the road every day. Sensitivity to the views of the public has been integral to this project at all levels. A compulsory order for the acquisition of the necessary land has been issued by Transport Scotland. Our geotechnical team supported the major ground investigations required and filled the key liaison role between the landowners and the project contractors — providing liaison between the parties before the contractors went on site. Key issues for our engineers included the mitigation of the effects of the new infrastructure, the minimisation of any disturbance to crops or livestock, the devising of an access strategy that was satisfactory to all parties and the carrying out of before and after condition surveys to verify that the work had not caused undue damage. |
