Aviation

Ramboll has extensive experience in the delivery of airport infrastructure encompassing more than 200 completed projects in Europe, Africa, the Middle East, India and Australasia. Our aviation strategists have advised government bodies and regulators around the world on safety, air traffic management and optimisation of flight path routes.

Ramboll is experienced in delivering whole solutions for airport projects, often in the role of lead consultant. Overall we have designed roughly 60 million sq m of airside and landside development. From Hyderabad to Moscow, London Heathrow to Copenhagen — we have delivered multidisciplinary engineering services to major airport operators around the world.

We are known for producing innovative airfield designs that deliver long term performance and safety at a reasonable cost. Our solutions often combine a minimised and highly targeted airside engineering programme with a rigorous monitoring regime to ensure consistent performance over time. This streamlined approach ensures solutions are never over-engineered, keeping materials use and capital cost to a minimum.

We believe so strongly in this philosophy that we created our own airfield pavement management system, Airpave. Web based and user friendly, Airpave embraces pavement monitoring, prediction of likely maintenance needs and long term financial planning. The newest version of the programme, Airpave 5.0, was launched in March 2011 with an improved UX design, making it even easier to use.

In the aviation industry real advances in sustainability must be made at both the micro- and macro- level. Lean engineering of aviation infrastructure is essential. Supporting coordinated industry-wide action to reduce climate impacts is equally important. Ramboll's aviation team is experienced at advising private developers, operators, government bodies and regulators on strategic approaches to aviation development that foreground both efficiency and sustainability. We recently provided feasibility analysis on aspects of the proposed Single European Sky scheme, whose purpose is to rationalise flight patterns across Europe to reduce C02 emissions.
